General Counsel

Quinn Allan is partnering with a leading national professional services firm advising corporates, financial institutions, international businesses and government agencies. With more than 1,800 professionals across Australia, the firm is known for its strong culture, pragmatic approach and consistent delivery of high-quality client outcomes. 

Reporting to the Board and Chief Executive Officer, the General Counsel is a key executive appointment responsible for leading, out of Melbourne or Sydney, the firm’s legal, governance, risk and compliance function nationally

Acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO, Board and Executive, you will provide commercially focused legal advice across regulatory, contractual, governance and strategic matters while safeguarding the firm’s legal and reputational position. The role spans oversight of risk, compliance and professional indemnity matters, including disputes, investigations and regulatory engagement, alongside the continued development of robust governance and compliance frameworks across the firm. 

You will also play a central role in supporting the firm’s growth agenda, advising on strategic initiatives, mergers, acquisitions and lateral opportunities, and ensuring alignment with legal, regulatory and risk considerations. In addition, you will contribute to ESG initiatives, oversee key commercial and contractual matters, and manage external counsel while partnering closely with senior stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, outcomes-focused solutions. 

You are a senior legal leader with significant experience in a law firm or similarly complex, regulated environment, with the credibility to engage effectively at Board and executive level. Admitted as an Australian legal practitioner with substantial post-qualification experience, you bring deep expertise across regulatory compliance, professional indemnity, disputes and corporate or commercial law. 

You combine strong technical capability with sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. Experienced in advising on governance and strategic matters, you are comfortable designing and embedding risk and compliance frameworks while operating in a role that requires both strategic oversight and hands-on delivery. 

Your style is collaborative and influential, with the ability to build trusted relationships across a partnership environment. You demonstrate high levels of integrity and discretion and are committed to fostering a strong risk culture aligned with the firm’s strategic objectives.
