Job Description
About the Company
Quinn Allan is partnering with an established specialist insurance business with a collaborative and values-led culture. The organisation offers a supportive environment where finance plays an important role in maintaining strong financial governance and driving continuous improvement.
About the Position
This broad Senior Financial Accountant role will take ownership across financial reporting, controls, risk and finance improvement initiatives.
You will oversee key financial accounting activities including month-end and year-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger integrity and external audit coordination. You will also contribute to finance risk and controls, systems improvements and broader process efficiency initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant, ideally with a Big 4 background, looking to step into a broad role combining hands-on financial accounting with exposure to controls, risk and continuous improvement.
Duties
• Oversee the general ledger control environment and ensure the completeness and accuracy of balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Lead the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process and resolution of outstanding variances
• Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including timetables, journals and reporting requirements
• Manage the relationship with external auditors, coordinating audit deliverables, timelines and issue resolution
• Oversee lease and fixed asset accounting and maintain strong financial control across key accounting processes
• Manage and maintain the Finance risk profile, controls register and regular controls testing
• Support Finance Risk Appetite Statement metrics and Key Risk Indicator reporting
• Maintain and improve finance processes, policies, controls and supporting documentation
• Support the ongoing management and improvement of the General Ledger system and related finance systems
• Contribute to finance process improvement initiatives and broader business projects
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and provide considered financial guidance
• Provide guidance, training and support to junior members of the finance team
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a technically strong accounting professional who combines a strong grounding in financial control with excellent stakeholder management skills. You will be proactive, highly organised and comfortable taking ownership within a collaborative and evolving environment.
You will have:
• Degree qualified with a CA or CPA qualification
• Approximately five or more years' experience within increasingly senior finance roles, ideally within the general insurance sector
• Big 4 accounting firm training or experience, with evidence of strong career progression
• Strong financial accounting and financial control experience
• Experience managing general ledger integrity, balance sheet reconciliations and month-end processes
• Demonstrated experience working with external auditors and coordinating audit requirements
• Strong understanding of finance risk, controls and governance environments
• Advanced Excel capability and experience working across finance management systems
• Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management capabilities
• A proactive and improvement-focused approach, with the ability to identify and implement stronger finance processes and controls
Previous experience within general insurance will be highly regarded, particularly exposure to insurance accounting, reserving, reinsurance, capital, claims and risk management.
