The Opportunity

If you enjoy technical accounting and want a role where your judgement matters, this one is worth a look.

Quinn Allan is partnering with a large, well-established Brisbane organisation to find a Senior Financial Accountant for a 12-month contract starting in November.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend your days on reconciliations. You’ll be the technical lead across financial accounting, tax, compliance, and treasury. That means working through complex accounting questions, advising on how the standards apply in practice, and making sure the numbers stand up to audit. The organisation’s size and complexity mean there is plenty to get your teeth into. There’s also real scope to leave things better than you found them. The business wants stronger controls, tighter processes and better use of its systems, and you’ll have a hand in shaping how that happens.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Working through complex accounting issues and advising on how Australian Accounting Standards apply in practice
  • Owning the integrity of the financial statements, general ledger and month-end and year-end close
  • Managing tax obligations and compliance reporting
  • Overseeing treasury, including liquidity, loan facilities, cash reserves and banking relationships
  • Leading the audit process from planning through to closing out findings
  • Reviewing and strengthening accounting policies, procedures and controls
  • Spotting where processes can be redesigned, automated or better supported by systems, and building the business case to make it happen
About You
  • CA or CPA qualified with a relevant tertiary qualification
  • You genuinely enjoy the technical side and are comfortable forming a view on the grey areas
  • Experience leading statutory reporting and audits in a large, complex organisation
  • Solid exposure to tax and treasury
  • An improvement mindset, with a track record of strengthening processes and controls
  • The ability to explain technical matters clearly to people outside finance
  • Experience in a large ERP environment will be highly regarded
